2. (Leontopodium alpinum), one of the best-known European mountain flowers, belongs to the sunflower family (Asteraceae).
3. Flowering stalks of edelweiss can grow to a size of 3–20 cm (in cultivation, up to 40 cm).
4.
5. Edelweiss is a protected plant in many countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Spain (Ordesa National Park), Slovakia (Tatra National Park), Slovenia (in Gorizia and Gradisca since 1896, in Carniola since 1898), Austria (since 1886) and Romania (since 1933).
6. The Edelweiss flower has since time immemorial been valued as medicine against the ailments of men and their beasts, as powerful Talisman to ward off evil and of course as the "Ultimate Love Charms" of the mountain.
7. Love struck young men would try to endear themselves by collecting Edelweiss from those hard to access crags and ledges in the High Alpine of Europe. During these quests many died from falls, or succumbed to exposure, insufficiently prepared for sudden weather changes.
8.
9. Edelweiss was a badge of Edelweiss Pirates (Edelweisspiraten)—the anti-Nazi youth groups in Third Reich. It was worn on the clothes (e.g. a blouse or a suit).
10. In its bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics the city of Salzburg uses an Edelweiss flower as the emblem.
11. Established 1907 by the Austrian-Hungarian Army for their alpine troops, the sign was used in WWII by the Wehrmacht Gebirgsjäger—here as Edelweiss cap badge.
12. The story goes that once, long, long ago, the Alps were far taller than they are these days. In those days, atop one of the snowcapped, precipice filled mountains lived an Ice Queen. She was said to be fair as snow and hauntingly beautiful. She was served by faithful gnomes, who lived with her on those slopes.
The Queen would sing melodiously and her sound would lure many a shepherd to lose his way in the mountains and come upon her abode. However beautiful she was, she had a flaw; her heart was frozen cold as if it were made of pure ice. [Now isn't that interesting???]

Thirteen Things the kids loved about The Science Museum
1.... The Hamster Wheel - is really hard to get that human size wheel to turn!
2. The bathrooms - the tiles were really cool! rocks in the boys, water in the girls.
3. Elevator number one - a glass one, you could see everything!
4. Elevator number two - had psychadelic patterns in the metal surface.
5. The drinking fountain - what is it about a water fountain, anyway?
6. The twirly coin toss - of which they emptied my pockets before we left.
Oh right... 7. There was the big Dinosaur that moved. Scared the crap out of Thomas but he got over it.
8. The Tornado - very cool
9. The computer games - after this exhibit, I was hardpressed to get Thomas interested in anything else.
10. The really gross vidoes of transplanting organs, a heart - EW.
11. A walk across I64 - standing on glass while cars zoomed under.
12. We ALMOST built an arch - we were just too short!
13. The kids LOVED knowing how much it cost to send them to the moon - it was appropriate for Thomas as I was ready to. LOL. Love that kid, he's just three that's all.
Oh, and I have to do one more... 14. Standing under the ledge of the roof as water poured off. Fun, lots of fun.

3. two candle sticks - with 2 baptismal candles in them. We didn't know if we could throw them away but were tired of "retaining" them. So we're burning them instead.
4. camera - I've been tracking plant growth.
5. glucose monitor
6. sunglasses - unfortunately, the desk is a catch all...of sorts. Not as bad as a junk drawer, but you know... keys, wallets, suglasses...and
7. mail - not really happy about this but it's convenient and 'in the box' as in, I don't know where else to put it possibly because I'm not thinking outside of the box. :D
8. DSL box - it's AT&T...our DSL box from verizon didn't work with AT&T service which stuck in my craw PLUS, our verizon had a wireless option where as this little thing is DSL stand alone...if we were ever to upgrade we'd need a different box. Grrr.
9. Thomas and friends VHS -
10. a Pencil Holder full of Pens and pencils - still they disappear!
11. speakers
12. printer - YAY! a really great thing for those days I wanna get away from the desk and still work.
13. The Fax Machine! - I love this thing. I love being about to say, let me fax that to you. It's an older model but that's actually better. My parents have one with all these buttons on it... and I couldn't quite get it to do exactly what I wanted. So. I'm happy.
1. Sometimes, there are as many as five or six moms with their children.
2. Today there was just one, my good friend Heather.
3. She has 4 children: Michael[sweet michael], Joey[rough and tumble yet so quiet], Anna[a laugh for every minute], and Esther[with smiles for everyone]
4. Then, there are mine: Thomas[tiny bit bossy but loads of good-cheer] and Sean[taking everything in with his ears and a touch]
5. I drank about 6 cups of coffee...Heather 2.
6. Usually, I try to make something like sweet bread but last night I wimped out and bought an Entenmann's.
7. The kids played around us for an hour or so.
8. The boys went upstairs to play with the Thomas train tracks.
9. An occasional yell or scream didn't faze us.
10. ...Until we went upstairs and found Joey sitting on the floor with blood pouring from his head.
11. Grabbing a towel from the hall closet, I quickly stemmed the flow.
12. Heads are known for their bleeding quality... there wasn't even a cut that we could see.
13. Apparently, Thomas launched a train from on top of the bunkbeds with deadly accuracy and hit Joey in the head...

1. My tooth at about the age of 2. Probably looked alot like this... BIG SMILE.
2. A pair of sunglasses. I just can't keep them...
3. Contact with friends. So many when you've moved as much as I have... Still in contact with my first best friend, Lisa. Wish I could say the same for Emily. We hung out together from 1st grade through...hmmm, 6th and then on and off until 10th when I moved out of state.
4. My skin. I was my parent's held breath. I dove off rocking chairs, fell out of strollers [although, really, was that my fault? :D Just an oversight, perhaps?], stepped on a garbage bag with broken glass at the bottom of it...ouch, that hurt and needed stitches in my pinky toe, too.
5. Another pair of sunglasses. Seriously, I think I'm cursed.
6. ...oh rules. I've broken a few rules in my day. *cough*
7. Hearts? I don't think so, although my mom says yes. *shaking head* Doesn't sound right to me. I'm not a heartbreaker I don't think...
8. Bronchioles and Alvioli. I'm sure of it. Smoking will do that. Thank God I'm a quitter. LOL
9. A Toyota Tercel. Mine was white, four door, standard [I'd love a standard now... sorry kiddo, I can't dig through the diaper bag just to get you your Thomas the Tank engine toy. I'm driving. See mommy driving?]
10. Blood vessels. Not exactly the same as skin but close. Actually, funny story. My lastest bruise came from trying to grab a book with my legs. I was *cough* reading in the bathroom...come on, I'm a mom. I'm up right now at 1am and sometimes, my only free time is the 30seconds to 3 min I get in there everyday... Well, the book got bumped off the counter and I didn't want it to fall on the floor. So, I'm standing in front of the sink with wet hands and I go for it with my legs. My right calf catches that cover at just the right angle and my left knee snaps my legs together and whammo! the bookcover completely breaks in half...oh good one.
11. Book covers. Ouch, that was way more painful than expected.
12. Promises. Not seemingly, really important ones, but the important hidden promises I break by using the term maybe. For example, will you read this book to me, Mom?
"Maybe later, okay?"
13. Did I mention sunglasses? I bought a pair several weeks ago from the dollar store. I thought, they never last anyway, just go cheap. Well, those things never even made it home. Grrr.

Graduated. #rmsotaco2024 Thank you Jakobi, for your kind words about Sean. I saw Sean be invisible at times and embraced by his peers at other times. Sean believes in the friendships he made at Rainey, and he loves and admires his classmates and can’t wait to see some of you in the halls of Columbus State. …RaineyMcCullers, Sean plans to be back. ❤️❤️

There were times (usually during an #IEPmeeting) when it seemed the end was super far away. And we would spend the rest of our living days in negotiations. and now it is almost over. What a ride it has been. #visuallyimpaired #lifewithoutsight #lossofsightnotlackofvision
